News: Questlove ‘Summer of Soul’ Doc Coming to Hulu

Questlove first premiered his Summer of Soul.. (or When The Revolution Could Not Be Televised) documentary at Sundance. Now, the doc has been acquired by Disney’s Searchlight Pictures and Hulu in a hefty deal. The film marks The Roots own Questlove’s directorial debut about Harlem’s Cultural Festival, Black Woodstock, back in 1969. It will include performances from Nina Simone and Stevie Wonder and many more.

Questlove explained the documatary as his passion project saying:

“I’m so honored to be allowed to manifest my dreams after all this time. This is truly an honor. Summer Of Soul is a passion project and to have it resonate with so many people on so many levels has been incredibly rewarding.”

Summer of Soul was produced by David Dinerstein, Robert Fyvolent and Joseph Patel while Guggenheim’s Concordia Studio serve as executive producers. They are hoping the new doc will bring joy with a needed reexamination of important social issues.
