Watch Anthony Hamilton vs. Musiq Soulchild VERZUZ Battle

Last night, love was in the air as VERZUZ held their Valentine’s Day special at the historic Avalon Hollywood. Anthony Hamilton went up against Musiq Soulchild in a head-to-head 20 song battle. DJ Scratch kicked off the night hosting the Resident DJ Competition where one DJ had the chance of winning $1 million. The battle last night was between DJ KTone and DJ Popo. DJ Zum warmed up the crowd with smooth R&B vibes from Groove Theory, Sade, Jazmine Sullivan and more.

The battle officially started with Jermaine Dupri playing Anthony Hamilton’s first song ‘Mama Knew Love.’ After Musiq Soulchild’s introduction, he played his classic song ‘Break You Off.’ The two R&B singers went back and forth with playful banter, keeping the vibes light, loving and friendly. Anthony Hamilton brought out The Hamiltones plus tons of special guests including Big V from the legendary group Nappy Roots. He was also joined by Leela James to perform ‘Complicated’ plus Kevin Ross, Raheem DeVaughn and Eric Roberson for a beautiful rendition of ‘Lessons.’ The surprise of the night was an appearance by Donnell Jones who performed ‘U Know What’s Up’ written by Hamilton.

Musiq Soulchild bought out Robert Glasper on the keys for the song ‘Oh Yeah.’ He then introduced Lucky Daye who performed his single ‘Over’ which samples Musiq’s 2002 hit single ‘Halfcrazy.’ He also let his mother’s son, 702 songstress Kameelah Williams grab her mic to congratulate him. After Anthony performed a fan favorite ‘Charlene,’ the night came to an end with Musiq singing his hit single ‘B.U.D.D.Y.’ Anthony won in our eyes but it’s all love! Anthony Hamilton just got back from tour and made sure to come prepared.
