Video: VERZUZ Presents D’Angelo & Friends

Initially presented as a traditional VERZUZ battle, D’Angelo took center stage on Saturday night. He performed at the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem for a virtual concert performing all of his hits and more. DJ Scratch warmed up the crowd for an hour to start the show playing all the classic songs from the era.

D’Angelo came out, cigarette in hand, with a long black mink coat, oversized hat and boots. He kicked off the show with trumpet player Keyon Harrold, before giving us ‘Cruisin’ and ‘Me and Those Dreamy Eyes of Mine.’ He brought out Method Man and Redman and late sang ‘Best Part’ and ‘Nothing Really Matters’ with singer H.E.R. He finished off the VERZUZ battle performing his hit song ‘How Does It Feel.’

Although D’Angelo gave us a soulful show, this VERZUZ was unexpectedly unlike other battles. Many thought it would consist of him actually battling a few artists, but instead didn’t even include enough ‘friends.’ The battle was also one of the lower watched events peaking at 200K viewers where other surpassed 1 million. Take a look and watch the full VERZUZ if you missed it below.
