Watch Big Daddy Kane vs. KRS-One VERZUZ Battle

Last night was a great night for Hip Hop. We had a chance to witness greatness as two legends came together for the good of the culture. Big Daddy Kane went up against KRS-One in a 20-song VERZUZ battle live from The Barclays in Brooklyn, NY. DJ Scratch and Kid Capri set off the night warming up the crowd with our favorite Hip Hop tunes in anticipation for the epic event.

The VERZUZ started off with something different, a DJ battle. This is the first time they have introduced a DJ competition before the VERZUZ where the winner would end up with a million dollar salary… very dope! Fat Joe was the host for the night introducing both KRS-One and Big Daddy Kane to the crowd. KRS kicked off the battle followed by Kane’s response in Round 1 with a tribute to the late Biz Markie. The two legends continued each round giving us their classic tracks including ‘South Bronx,’ ‘Step Into The World,’ ‘I’m Still #1,’ ‘Platinum PLus,’ ‘Ain’t NO Half Steppin’ and more. The level of breath control, stamina and entertainment surpassed what we expected from the two rappers who are both well over 50.

Big Daddy Kane surprised the crowd bringing out the legendary rap group Nice & Smooth. After assisting with ‘Pimping Ain’t Easy,’ the group couldn’t leave without giving us a live rendition of ‘DWYCK.’ KRS-One then brought out Mad Lion to assist in performing ‘Take It Easy.’ Throughout the night we saw tons of special guests including Das EFX, Roxanne Shante, DJ Red Alert, Buckshot, Master Ace, Craig G, Channel Live and more. There was even a Hip Hop breakdancing session with dancers including Crazy Legs from the legendary Rock Steady Crew. Toward the end of the night Kane and KRS-One showed their admiration for one another and even shared a few stories as to why they wouldn’t have done the VERZUZ with any other opponent. The bar has definitely been raised for future VERZUZ battles. Take a look at some images and the recap from the battle below.
