News: Killer Mike Unveils Black Digital Banking Platform

Killer Mike is helping us support black-owned business the right way. He teamed up with Bounce TV founder Ryan Glover to deliver Greenwood, a platform supporting black-owned banks and businesses. The app is named after the Greenwood neighborhood in Tulsa, Oklahoma, also dubbed Black Wall Street in the early 1900s.

Greenwood will offer checking and savings accounts pledging to donate five free meals for every new customer who signs up this year. When the Greenwood debit card is swiped at a store, there will also be a donation to the United Negro College Fund, Goodr, along with the NAACP. They will also donate a $10,000 monthly grant to various Black and Latin small businesses.

Glover secured more than $3 million on seed funding for the business back in June. The popularity spiked after the killing of George Floyd which lead to many wanting to support black businesses. Glover says the sign-ups for the Greenwood app are in the tens of thousands and they are getting new sign-ups each day. The goal is to offer financial support to Black and Latin-owned businesses that may not have been able to secure a loan from a bank or other financial institution. Glover told CNN, “We will identify qualified entrepreneurs, business owners and creatives to equip them with the capital needed to make their dreams a reality.” Take a look at what Killer Mike had to say below.
