News: RIAA’s New Rules Change Pushes Several Albums To Platinum Status

Jay-Z has changes the game forever with the partnership release of his Magna Carter, Holy Grail with Samsung a few years back. Following his lead, Rihanna’s new album ANTI was certified Platinum in just a day due to her partnership with the brand as well. The RIAA has now decided to recognize streams when tracking album sales, pushing many already released album over the gold and platinum mark.

Kendrick Lamar can now boast platinum success for his sophomore released LP To Pimp A Butterfly, along with Big Sean and his Dark Sky Paradise album. The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness project is now 2x platinum while Wale’s The Album About Nothing goes gold and Michael Jackson’s Thriller is now 32x platinum, take a look below.

The RIAA counts 1,500 on-demand audio and/or video song streams as 10 equivalent track sales, which in turn counts for one equivalent album sale.
