After releasing his third album DAMN last week, Kendrick Lamar has more reason to celebrate. His new album shot to the top of the Billboard charts moving 603,000 equivalent album units. The LP earned Kendrick the highest debut for an artists album in a week in 2017.

Kendrick’s new album DAMN is the follow-up to his Untitled Unmastered released last year and 2015’s To Pimp a Butterfly. Industry insiders forecasted sales between 530,000 and 550,000 units while the album surpassed those number and kept going.

In total, DAMN. sold 353,000 in traditional album sales in its first week. That’s both the largest sales week of 2017 (surpassing Ed Sheeran’s ÷ [Divide] launch of 322,000) and a career-high sales frame for Lamar (beating To Pimp a Butterfly’s bow of 324,000 in 2015). DAMN.’s sales are the largest for an album in a week since J. Cole’s 4 Your Eyez Only started with 363,000 in the week ending Dec. 15, 2016.
