Jay-Z was nominated today for The Songwriters Hall of Fame which is dedicated to recognizing the work and lives of those composers and lyricists who create music around the world. Candidates are eligible after making music for 20 years and if inducted Jay-Z will make history as the first rapper ever to do so.
Other candidates who are also nominated include non-performing acts Babyface, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis while performing acts Gloria Estefan, Madonna and George Michael are also nominees.
Eligible members vote for two performing songwriters and three non-performing ones until Dec. 16. The final group of five individual writers or writing teams will be inducted at an Annual Induction & Awards Gala on June 15, 2017, in New York City.
