News: Jay-Z Becomes First Rapper to Reach Billionaire Status

Jay-Z has accomplished a lot but according to Forbes, he is the first rapper to accumulate a fortune that conservatively totals $1 billion. Jay-Z’s business efforts are everywhere from liquor and art to real estate and more. The Brooklyn native who went from drug dealer to rapper has come a long way since his Reasonable Doubt 1996 debut.

He started the Rocawear clothing line in 1996, then sold it to Iconix for $204 million in 2007. He co-owns the D’Ussé liquor brand with Bacardi which is valued at $100 million and is currently part owner of Tidal also worth $100 million. He owns Armand de Brignac champagne valued at $310 million. He invested in a stake of UBER for $2 million 2003 which is now worth $70 million. Roc Nation is worth $75 miilion while his music catalog still brings in over a billion streams annually totaling another $75 million. He has acquired a $70 million art collection along with over $50 million in real estate.
