Bryson Tiller dropped his new album True To Self last week, the follow-up to his T R A P S O U L project released back in 2015. His new album lands at #1 on the Billboard Charts released via TrapSoul/RCA Records. The project moved 107,000 equivalent album units in the week ending June 1, according to Nielsen Music. A total of 47,000 were in traditional album sales.

The album is lead by the single ‘Somethin Tells Me,’ True To Self was originally set to be release on June 23rd but was released early. Bryson will be heading out on his Set It Off Tour on August 3rd kicking off in Atlanta, GA. He recently sat down with Billboard to talks about the album and more. Take a look below and read the full story here.

Billboard: Tell me why did you decided to release True to Self almost a month early.
Tiller: I can’t take the credit for that. It was just my manager; it was his plan [to] drop it a month early. I’ve been ready to get the music to the fans as soon as possible, so why not?

Billboard: Did you know it was going to be released early in advance or was it a last-minute snap decision?
Tiller: We planned it for a while. I actually forgot it was coming out early. Then they told me [last] week like, “Yo! You know it comes out this Friday?”

Billboard: How have you changed since Trapsoul?
Tiller: I talk to people now. Even when people come to my shows — celebrities or people who work in the industry — I’m more talkative rather than being so shy and to myself.

Billboard: You seem reserved in your personal life. Are you outspoken there too?
Tiller: For sure. I see my family members a lot more. Everything that’s happened to me is a blessing to my life. I’m in the gym more. Eating better. This year, I’m drinking green smoothies. Two years ago, if you had passed me a green smoothie, I’d be like, “Get that outta my face!”

Billboard: How much of your new album was inspired by real life?
Tiller: Probably 100 percent of it.
