Interview: @Rza responds to @Raekwon on @Hot97 Plus Talks New Movie

HOT 97 Summer Jam XX - Vevo Recording Studio

Rza sat down with Hot 97 to talk about the character he plays in his upcoming movie with the late Paul Walker, Brick Masions. But, he definately had to address the comments Raekwon recently made about the Wu Tang Clan reunion album A Better Tomorrow.

Just to catch you up if you didn’t know already, Raekwon let it be known he was unhappy with both the title and final Wu Tang project. He also said Rza wanted a humble album which he and the group were not interested in putting together. Raekwon says:

“I would be the first one to say that we cant leave everything in RZA’s hands no more, He has done his job to the greatest of his ability when we were younger, but now every man plays an imperative role in this situation. His plan was to do a more humble album. We was like, Nah. You can’t do that with the hardest group in the game.

The anniversary album’s tentative title, A Better Tomorrow, wasn’t approved by the group before it was announced, which created dissension early in the process. It’s like getting the United Nations to all agree on one fucking thing, Italy ain’t having it. Japan is on some shit. You know what I mean? Now, here it is, the 20-year anniversary that’s so decoratedly respected that we might not even be on time for this shit.” –Raekwon

Then Raekwon did an interview with Rolling Stone and when asked about the new Wu Tang single ‘Keep Watch’ Raekwon says:

“I hate it. I hate it. I don’t hate shit, but I hate that fuckin’ record. It ain’t the gunpowder that my brother is spitting; it’s the production. And I ain’t shitting on the producer because he’s one of our soldiers. But if it ain’t where it need to be… It’s 20 years later. We talkin ’bout a whole new generation is sitting here representin’ and making fiery shit and you telling me that we comin out with some mediocre shit? That ain’t part of our plan. Listen, shit ain’t right.” So therefore, I’m in a limbo situation.

There’s no animosity with me and my brothers. My issue is with fuckin’ management. And whoever sits in that chair, RZA and Devine, that’s they shit that they have to deal with. You’re not going to bury my career with your dumb moves. So yeah, you’re right. I am on strike. It ain’t the fact that I don’t want to be there. Because of course I want to be there. But if we’re there, we gotta do the best everything.

As far as the RZA, I respect him, I love him – the love ain’t gonna go anywhere – but you’re not in the music world no more. So to me, you need to take a backseat and respect the n—as that is playing the game. I’m always out in the field and finding out what’s going on with the new. Period.”Raekwon
