Legendary Rapper Biz Markie Dies at 57

It’s with great sadness we report that the legendary rapper Biz Markie has died at age 57. The rapper was said to have been suffering from health issues for month and was admitted into the hospital last week. Although his official cause of death has yet to be announced, he had been ill for a while. His death was confirmed by his manager Jenni D. Izumi who said:

“We are grateful for the many calls and prayers of support that we have received during this difficult time. Biz created a legacy of artistry that will forever be celebrated by his industry peers and his beloved fans whose lives he was able to touch through is music spanning over 35 years.’

Biz Markie started off in the music industry young. He was born in Harlem, but moved to Long Island in his teens. He was apart of the Juice Crew led by Marley Marl bringing the fun to music. His first solo album was Goin Off in 1988 which featured his hit single ‘Nobody Beats the Biz’ and ‘Vapors.’ His sophomore album was Biz Never Sleeps which included his classic ‘Just a Friend.’ The second album hit No. 9 on the Billboard album charts. Biz continued with music and event went on to star in movies playing himself in Men In Black II. He was also featured on the children’s show Yo Gabba Gabba! As of late you could find him playing DJ sets on social media or on his show, Rock the Bells Radio on Sirius XM. Our condolences go out to his family and friends along with the Hip Hop community.
